A magnitude 3.9 earthquake was recorded in the northeastern Caribbean on Tuesday morning, according to the Seismic Research Centre (SRC) at The University of the West Indies.

The preliminary quake occurred at 10:37am local time (14:37 UTC) at a depth of 10 kilometres.

The epicentre was located at latitude 18.58 north and longitude 62.13 west, approximately 157 kilometres northeast of Basseterre in Saint Kitts and Nevis, 166 kilometres north-northwest of St John’s in Antigua and Barbuda, and 198 kilometres north of Brades, Montserrat.

The SRC said the earthquake’s location and magnitude were generated automatically by computer algorithms and remain preliminary.

The agency noted that the information is subject to revision after further analysis by its seismologists.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries, and it was not immediately clear whether the tremor was felt in nearby islands.
