Prime Minister Gaston Browne says he will continue pursuing a defamation lawsuit against two people who allegedly accused him of corruption and stealing US$10 million connected to the Alfa Nero superyacht.

Speaking Saturday on the Browne and Browne Show, Browne said the defendants now have an opportunity to substantiate their allegations in court.

“I’ve given them the opportunity to go to court and to provide the evidence,” Browne said, claiming they were now “running” from the case.

The prime minister said one defendant unsuccessfully sought to have the lawsuit dismissed. According to Browne, the court rejected the application and ruled that the claim could proceed.

He also disclosed that another defendant, DeLuca, has now been served with the court documents.

“He too has been served, and I’m not relenting,” Browne said.

Browne said he brought the case to defend both his personal reputation and the integrity of Antigua and Barbuda.

“I’m defending my dignity, I’m defending my integrity, and by so doing, I’m also defending the dignity and integrity of our state,” he said.

The prime minister acknowledged that criticism comes with political office but said he would pursue legal action when accusations are false, defamatory and damaging.

The allegations remain before the court and have not been proven.
