Cornelius Urges Country-First Politics and Greater Youth Involvement
Youth activist Skielar Cornelius is urging Antiguans and Barbudans to put the country’s interests above political party loyalty.
Speaking on Pointe FM 99.1’s “Triple A.K.A. Show,” Cornelius said politics should focus on service and national development, not simply winning elections or defending party colours.
“My loyalty should ultimately be to my country, not just to a political party,” she said, adding that people should acknowledge both their party’s mistakes and good ideas from opposing sides.
Cornelius also called for greater youth involvement in national decision-making, political organisations and public office. However, she said young people should work alongside older generations, who can provide guidance and experience.
“I don’t believe politics should belong to one generation,” she said. “Every generation has a responsibility to understand it, participate in it and, when the time comes, help shape it.”
