Antigua Carnival 2026 was delivered within its approved EC$5.2 million budget, while most major events recorded increased ticket sales compared with the previous three years.
The Antigua and Barbuda Festivals Commission presented Cabinet with a report covering the festival’s financial performance, attendance, visitor participation and preparations for the 70th anniversary of Antigua Carnival in 2027.
Director General of Communications Maurice Merchant said Cabinet welcomed the Commission’s ability to stage this year’s festival without exceeding its allocation.
“The Commission reported that Carnival 2026 was successfully delivered within its approved $5.2 million budget, which is really good news for the Cabinet of Antigua and Barbuda,” Merchant said during Thursday’s post-Cabinet media briefing.
The Commission also reported increased public support, with ticket sales rising for most Carnival shows when compared with corresponding events staged during the past three years.
Cabinet said the improvement signals growing public interest in Antigua’s national festival and the entertainment being presented.
The Commission has been meeting with stakeholders and continues to settle obligations arising from the staging of this year’s celebrations.
Cabinet commended the Commission’s management and staff, participating artistes, promoters, service providers and other stakeholders for what it described as the successful staging of Carnival 2026.
Planning is now turning toward Antigua Carnival’s 70th anniversary in 2027.
