ST. JOHN’S, Antigua — Gas station dealers have reopened their service stations following talks with Prime Minister Gaston Browne, bringing an end to Tuesday’s closure as discussions continue over their profit margins.

Browne described his meeting with the dealers association as “very constructive” and said operators reopened their stations to facilitate dialogue.

“Had a very constructive engagement with the dealers association. They reopened their stations to facilitate the dialogue,” Browne said.

The prime minister also announced that the government will establish an expert team to examine the dealers’ concerns and advise the Cabinet on whether their margins should be adjusted in the future.

“We will be establishing an expert team, to advise the Cabinet on a possible future adjustment to their margin,” Browne said.

The development follows industrial action by gas station operators seeking an increase in the margins they receive on fuel sales.

The reopening means motorists can once again access fuel at participating service stations while discussions between the government and dealers continue.
