The Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Service has recovered one of three ocean-monitoring buoys after it went missing over the weekend.

The buoy was found in Barbuda and retrieved virtually intact.

The devices collect real-time data on waves, sea temperatures, currents and wind to improve marine and weather forecasts and strengthen early-warning systems.

The Meteorological Service is urging mariners, fishers and the public not to move, damage or tamper with the buoys, which it says are important national assets.

Anyone who notices suspicious activity involving the equipment is asked to contact the Meteorological Service.
