Antigua and Barbuda’s junior minister of tourism, Janica Adams, has proposed a digital tourism ambassador programme that would partner with online content creators to help attract visitors.

Speaking at the 2026 Regional Tourism Youth Congress in Guyana, Adams cited IShowSpeed’s visit to Antigua and Barbuda as an example of the promotional reach of digital media.

According to Adams, more than 2.5 million people engaged with his livestream, while his reach across platforms totalled 53 million people. She presented those figures as evidence of the potential audience tourism destinations can reach through content creators.

“One visit, one creator, 53 million potential visitors. That’s the power of digital storytelling,” Adams said.

She suggested working with creators through a tourism ambassador programme to translate that exposure into travel.

“Through a digital tourism ambassador program, we partner with creators and interviewers to turn views into visits, followers into future travelers,” she said.

Adams argued that authentic experiences, stories and cultural moments shared online can inspire people to visit Antigua and Barbuda.

The programme was one of three strategies she outlined to strengthen tourism through music, film and entertainment. She also proposed year-round cultural experiences featuring local music, cuisine and heritage, along with a creative tourism innovation hub to help young people develop tours, performances and digital experiences.

Adams received a special mention from judges at the congress, which brought together 18 delegates from Caribbean countries and territories.
