Five members of the Cayman Islands Regiment are being deployed to Antigua and Barbuda to support security and logistical preparations for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, which is expected to draw thousands of delegates and King Charles III.

An officer and four troopers were scheduled to travel on Oct. 15 ahead of the Nov. 1–4 conference in St. John’s, according to the Cayman Compass.

Captain Nathan Dack, the regiment’s logistics officer, said the contingent would spend the weeks before the meeting assisting with logistical preparations. Major Paris Goldsbury, the regiment’s executive officer, was expected to join the team a few days later.

Dack and Goldsbury, a former British Army regular, will work on operational support and event management during the conference.

The meeting is expected to attract up to 7,000 delegates, with senior British government figures also expected to attend.

Lieutenant Colonel Simon Dack, the United Kingdom’s defence attaché to the Caribbean, said in August that he had personally selected the Cayman Islands Regiment to participate in the security operation.

The Cayman contingent will work alongside soldiers from the Royal Montserrat Defence Force and the Turks and Caicos Islands Regiment.

Lieutenant Colonel Graham Muir, commanding officer of the Cayman regiment, said the assignment reflected the quality of its personnel and highlighted the importance of continued investment in the force’s capacity to respond to regional needs.

CHOGM brings together leaders from the Commonwealth’s 56 member countries every two years to discuss shared priorities and agree on responses to major international issues.
