Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre has welcomed back two specialist physicians following the completion of advanced medical training, strengthening its Internal Medicine and Emergency Medicine departments.

Dr. Akweta Alexander has returned as a consultant internist after completing her Doctor of Medicine (DM) degree in Internal Medicine, while Dr. Su-Jay Gore has rejoined the hospital as an Emergency Medicine consultant after completing his DM in that specialty.

Both doctors previously served at the medical centre and are returning with additional qualifications and expertise.

Alexander said her passion for medicine developed at an early age and was strengthened during her internship in 2015-2016, when she developed a particular interest in Internal Medicine.

She expressed enthusiasm about returning to the hospital, providing comprehensive patient care and helping to guide younger doctors.

Gore also welcomed the opportunity to return home and continue serving the people of Antigua and Barbuda.

“I am delighted to return home and continue serving the people of Antigua and Barbuda,” Gore said.

He said he looks forward to working with colleagues to improve emergency services and deliver timely, compassionate and quality care to patients and their families.

In separate announcements, the hospital welcomed both physicians back, expressing confidence that their knowledge and expertise would contribute to improved patient care and service delivery.

The appointments add specialist expertise to two important areas of healthcare at the country’s main public hospital.
