Idris Elba and Senator Jamilla Kirwan will host One Commonwealth Night at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium on November 2, featuring international and local performers during the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Antigua and Barbuda.
The concert is scheduled to run from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. under the theme “Many Voices, One Commonwealth.”
Director General of Communications Maurice Merchant announced the hosts during Friday’s post-Cabinet media briefing, following a presentation by the event’s organising team.
“Sir Idris Elba will be the host alongside Senator Jamilla Kirwan for that spectacular event,” Merchant said.
He said the programme would bring together music, culture, storytelling, youth participation and leadership from across the Commonwealth’s 56 member countries.
Antiguan performers Claudette Peters and Asher Otto are among the local acts announced. International performers named during the briefing include reggae singer Tarrus Riley, singer Falguni Shah, popularly known as Falu, and Ghanaian musician Rocky Dawuni.
Merchant said organisers envisioned a three-stage setup, including a presentation combining an orchestra with steel pan performers.
“One of the interesting presentations will be an orchestra presentation along with a steel pan presentation amalgamated,” he said.
The event forms part of the programme surrounding the November 1–4 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, which will bring leaders, official delegations and other international guests to Antigua and Barbuda.
Merchant said additional information about the concert would be included in the written Cabinet statement. Ticketing arrangements and admission details were not announced during the briefing.
