Antigua and Barbuda’s tourism industry is poised for a record-breaking year, according to Tourism Minister Charles Fernandez. Speaking on Pointe FM’s Browne and Browne Show, Fernandez highlighted a 15% increase in stay-over visitors during the first half of 2024, with strong growth projected across all tourism sectors, including air, cruise, and yachting arrivals.
“This year, we’ve seen remarkable growth, and we are on track to surpass previous records across the board,” Fernandez said. “Stay-over arrivals have risen significantly, and we anticipate similar successes in cruise and yachting tourism by year-end.”
Fernandez credited the growth to strategic partnerships, effective marketing campaigns, and enhanced airlift capacity. With additional flights from key markets, Antigua and Barbuda has become an increasingly accessible and attractive destination for travelers.
The cruise sector is also on a high trajectory, with Antigua and Barbuda continuing to solidify its position as a premier port of call in the Caribbean. The yachting industry, an essential part of the country’s high-end tourism offering, is experiencing similar success, with increased arrivals and longer stays.
The minister underscored the role of collaboration between the government, private sector, and law enforcement in ensuring a safe and enjoyable environment for visitors. He praised the work of the police and other stakeholders for maintaining Antigua and Barbuda’s reputation as one of the safest destinations in the region.
“Our success is the result of a collective effort,” Fernandez stated. “From our law enforcement to our hospitality teams, everyone has played a part in making Antigua and Barbuda a top-tier destination.”
Looking ahead, Fernandez expressed optimism about 2025, highlighting the anticipated boost from hosting matches during the ICC T20 Cricket World Cup and ongoing investments in the tourism sector.
“This year’s achievements are just the beginning. We are laying the groundwork for even greater successes in 2025, as we continue to enhance our offerings and attract more visitors,” he said.
With its robust growth in tourism, Antigua and Barbuda is not only recovering from the challenges of the pandemic but emerging stronger as a leading Caribbean destination. The government remains committed to leveraging this momentum to ensure sustained success in the years to come.
