An Antiguan woman has pleaded guilty to using forged cheques to obtain more than $2,000 from a wholesale business in 2022.

Jahmalier Grant admitted in court to three counts of obtaining money by false pretence, totalling $2,300, through forged cheques valued at $900, $500 and $900.

The offences took place during three separate transactions between 7 and 9 September 2022 on Lower Market Street.

Grant initially claimed an unidentified man had given her the cheques to deposit but later confessed to forging them herself. The cheques were reportedly stolen during a residential burglary in which an entire chequebook was taken.

She denied six related charges of forgery and uttering forged documents, which prosecutors agreed to drop following her guilty plea.

Sentencing is scheduled for 18 November.
