LIAT Air has confirmed that it is fully prepared to resume operations into Jamaica, expressing solidarity with passengers and communities affected by the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa.

In a statement issued Wednesday, the airline said it stands “in solidarity with you during this challenging time” and remains committed to supporting recovery efforts across the island.

LIAT said it is awaiting final clearance from the Jamaican authorities, who are conducting a comprehensive assessment of the damage caused by the hurricane. Flight operations will resume as soon as officials confirm that it is safe to do so.

Acknowledging that many travelers have faced disruptions since the storm, the airline appealed for patience as it works with the relevant authorities to restore service safely and responsibly.

As a show of support, LIAT announced that it will offer one free checked bag to all passengers traveling to Jamaica for one week following the resumption of service. The initiative aims to assist those delivering relief supplies to relatives and friends in need.

“Please be assured that we are here for you and ready to assist in any way we can,” the statement concluded.

Hurricane Melissa, a Category 5 storm, brought catastrophic flooding and widespread destruction to Jamaica earlier this week, leaving several communities cut off and infrastructure severely damaged.
