    Ten Young Athletes Nominated for 2025 Junior Sportsman of the Year Award

    The National Sports Awards has announced the nominees for the 2025 Junior Sportsman of the Year, recognizing a new generation of athletes who have delivered standout performances for Antigua and Barbuda across local, regional and international competition.

    The category highlights young sportsmen who have demonstrated exceptional talent, leadership and commitment throughout the season.

    Sprinter Gideon Roberts enters the list after an unbeaten campaign that included multiple national titles and a championship record at the NACAC Age Group Championships.

    In basketball, Tajahron Davis led Clare Hall Secondary School to league and playoff titles, earning Male Player of the Year honors while extending his impact to club and regional competition.

    Sixteen-year-old cricketer Matthew Miller enjoyed a breakthrough year, earning selection to the West Indies Under-19 team. He amassed 930 runs and claimed 55 wickets across competitions while serving as Under-19 captain.

    Cyclist Tahje Browne secured multiple national junior titles and captured bronze at the Caribbean Junior Cycling Championships. He also competed in Europe with the Zappi Junior Development Team.

    Footballer Dajari Barthley balanced academics and elite sport in England while representing Antigua and Barbuda’s Under-20 team, earning top academic honors alongside his athletic achievements.

    Sailor Shanoy Malone dominated the Caribbean Dinghy Championships, winning 13 of 15 races and captaining Antigua and Barbuda to victory. He also recorded international podium finishes and qualified for the Junior Pan American Games.

    Swimmer Alessandro Bazzoni reached the podium in all six of his events at CARIFTA, winning three gold medals and setting multiple age-group records, including breaking a long-standing OECS mark.

    Table tennis player Mekhi Simmons claimed several Under-19 titles and secured regional gold in Mixed Doubles at the OECS Championships, competing successfully in both junior and open divisions.

    Elite Thomas distinguished himself as a multi-sport athlete, winning gold at the Rainbow Cup Triathlon while remaining undefeated nationally in junior cycling and excelling in local road running.

    Volleyballer Asafa Donovan delivered a strong season, leading his school to an undefeated championship run, earning MVP honors and capturing gold and silver medals in regional competition.

    Organizers said the awards will celebrate the achievements of these young athletes, describing them as the future of sport in Antigua and Barbuda.
