Barbuda Housing Project Nearing Final Stage, Update Expected by July, Beazer Says
The Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party candidate for Barbuda, Kendra Beazer, says a planned housing development for the island is nearing its final stage, with key details on construction expected to be released by July.
Speaking during a “Know Your Candidates” interview ahead of the April 30 general election, Beazer said the project—backed by the Chinese government—is approaching completion of its planning phase.
“The housing project that is supported through the Chinese government, that project is presently in its finalization stage,” he said.
He added that residents should expect more definitive information in the coming months.
“You will hear information as to commencement date at that point,” Beazer said, referring to July as the expected timeframe for an update.
The development is intended to address ongoing housing challenges in Barbuda, where infrastructure and access to affordable homes have been key issues raised during the campaign.
Beazer said the project would be tailored specifically to the needs of Barbuda rather than replicating housing models used elsewhere in Antigua.
“It’s similar, but… it’s not the same. We’re two different communities. It will be tailored to fit the community of Barbuda,” he said.
