Prime Minister Gaston Browne has called on United Progressive Party (UPP) Chair D. Gisele Isaac to resign following the party’s defeat in the April 30 general election, arguing that its leadership must take responsibility for the outcome.

Speaking on the Browne and Browne Show on Pointe FM on Saturday, Browne said Isaac had previously indicated she would step down and should now follow through.

“She had said to a number of her colleagues that she would resign, and now is the time for her to resign. I don’t know what she’s waiting for,” Browne said.

He added that Isaac should “leave office” and “resign as chairman of UPP” to allow the party to rebuild.

Browne’s remarks come after his Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) secured a decisive victory, winning 15 of 17 seats in Parliament, while the UPP suffered significant losses.

During the programme, Browne sharply criticized the opposition’s campaign and internal structure, describing the party as disunited and lacking direction. He said its leadership had failed to connect with voters and warned that continued resistance to change could further weaken the party.

The prime minister said the UPP now faces a critical moment and must undertake serious reform, including bringing in new leadership and talent, if it hopes to regain political relevance.

Isaac has not publicly responded to Browne’s comments.
