A series of confrontations disrupted J’ouvert celebrations on Old Parham Road Monday morning, leaving four people requiring medical attention in two unrelated incidents.

In the first case, a Lower Gambles resident was injured in an attack near the Antigua Grammar School shortly after 9 a.m.

Observer Media reported that the man was making his way through the J’ouvert crowd when the incident occurred. He later collapsed and was taken by Emergency Medical Services to the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre for treatment.

Another disturbance was reported roughly 40 minutes later, involving a man from Pigott’s Village and two people from Glanvilles.

During that confrontation, police reports indicate that bottles and a cutlass were allegedly used.

The Pigott’s resident is accused of striking the Glanvilles man with a bottle, while a woman from Glanvilles was also injured during the dispute. The Glanvilles man allegedly responded by using a cutlass, leaving the Pigott’s resident with an injury to his hand.

The three people involved sought medical treatment.

Both incidents unfolded as thousands of people participated in the annual pre-dawn Carnival celebration in St. John’s.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the two confrontations. No arrests had been announced.
