Antigua and Barbuda has received three SOFAR Ocean Data Buoy Stations to strengthen marine forecasting, climate monitoring and early-warning capabilities.

Minister of State Michael Freeland accepted the European Union-funded equipment during a ceremony at Point Wharf on Tuesday.

The stations will provide near real-time marine and meteorological data to improve forecasts, maritime safety and coastal-hazard assessments.

Technical personnel are also training local staff to deploy, operate and maintain the system. Officials say the enhanced data will support earlier warnings and help protect lives, property and critical economic sectors.
