The Antigua and Barbuda government has approved the purchase of a third shipment of building materials to help residents complete repairs and improvements to their homes.
Director General of Communications Maurice Merchant said Cabinet agreed Wednesday that another shipment would be ordered, with the supplies expected to arrive in the country within the coming weeks.
Merchant said the materials would be distributed to individuals to provide relief and directly support the government’s housing assistance programme.
The initiative is intended to make essential building supplies available to households and accelerate much-needed repairs and improvements to residential properties across Antigua and Barbuda.
Merchant recalled that the government announced in April that a second shipment of building materials would be brought into the country for distribution.
The latest order represents the third phase of the programme and will provide additional supplies to strengthen the government’s ongoing effort to assist residents undertaking work on their properties.
Merchant did not disclose the value of the new shipment, the specific materials being ordered or how residents would qualify to receive assistance.
