ST. JOHN’S, Antigua — The Ecclesiastical Commission, in partnership with the Ministry of Social and Urban Transformation, is inviting citizens and residents across Antigua and Barbuda to participate in the 2026 National Day of Prayer on Thursday, Sept. 10.

This year’s observance will be held under the theme, “From Repentance to Restoration: Rebuilding Trust in the God of Our Nation.”

Activities will run from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., with churches across the country opening their doors during the morning and early afternoon to allow members of their communities to participate in prayer.

Religious leaders from various denominations are also expected to engage with the media throughout the day, discussing the importance of prayer, hope and thanksgiving.

The observance will culminate with a national gathering at the Antigua Recreation Ground from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The public is being encouraged to pray for mercy and hope and to offer thanksgiving.

“At once per year, the Commission felt it was necessary to have a day where we can focus and look inward so that we can call out to God for His protection and direction,” Ecclesiastical Commission Chairman Dr. Emmanuel Elizèe said.

“Even in difficult times, this nation still has much to be grateful for,” he added.

Elizèe also pointed to what he described as a biblical precedent for nations to remember God as their protector and provider.

The Ecclesiastical Commission and the Ministry of Social and Urban Transformation are encouraging people across Antigua and Barbuda to participate in the day’s activities and attend the closing gathering at the Antigua Recreation Ground for prayer, reflection and thanksgiving.
