The Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party has paid tribute to veteran politician Sir Robin Yearwood as he celebrates his 82nd birthday Tuesday, describing him as a giant of Caribbean politics whose public service has helped shape the nation.

In a birthday message, the ABLP highlighted Sir Robin’s five decades of uninterrupted parliamentary service, noting that he entered Parliament in 1976 as the representative for St. Philip’s North and went on to secure 11 consecutive electoral victories.

The party recalled his service in several senior government positions, including minister of agriculture, aviation, public information, public utilities and finance. He also served as deputy prime minister and leader of the opposition.

Sir Robin marked 50 consecutive years in Parliament in February before announcing his retirement, ending one of the longest parliamentary careers in the Caribbean and wider Commonwealth.

“Whatever one’s politics, there can be no denying the magnitude of that contribution,” the ABLP said in its birthday message. “Fifty years in Parliament is not simply a political career; it is a significant chapter of our nation’s history.”

The party wished Sir Robin continued strength and good health, while recognizing his contribution to Antigua and Barbuda’s development from the pre-Independence period through the modern era.
