Claudius Richards has died after reportedly becoming unresponsive at Jolly Harbour Beach.

Richards was identified as the man who experienced a medical emergency while on a section of the beach near the area where Prime Minister Gaston Browne’s residence is located.

According to reports, two ambulances responded to the emergency, but crews were unable to drive directly to the area because of fencing and the absence of a suitable vehicle access point.

Richards was reportedly transported by golf cart from farther along the beach to a gate where ambulance personnel could reach him. CPR was reportedly performed during the emergency, but he later died.

Questions are now being raised about emergency access to that section of Jolly Harbour Beach and whether lifeguards were present at the time.

There have also been allegations concerning whether assigned lifeguards regularly report to their designated areas after clocking in. Those claims have not been independently verified and would require investigation by the relevant authorities.

Richards had reportedly participated in a protest action calling for justice several weeks ago and was also involved in charitable work.

Members of the public are being urged not to circulate a video showing efforts to resuscitate Richards, in keeping with his family’s request for privacy and dignity.

Condolences have been extended to his family, friends and loved ones.
