Four participants from Antigua and Barbuda have successfully completed a specialized training programme in the People’s Republic of China focused on modern water-saving agriculture and irrigation technologies.
The delegation comprised Mr. Jerres George and Ms. Clementina Morgan, both farmers and members of the Antigua and Barbuda Agricultural Forum for Youth (ABAFY); Ms. Claire Thomas, a farmer; and Ms. Alsiah Benjamen, a Science Teacher.
The participants took part in the Seminar on Water-Saving Irrigation in Arid and Semi-Arid Regions for Developing Countries, held from August 19 to September 1, 2026 and organized by the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Mechanization Sciences Group Co., Ltd. (CAAMS).
During the programme, the delegation participated in technical sessions, practical training and field visits in Beijing, Shijiazhuang, Baoding and Tianjin, gaining firsthand experience in modern irrigation systems, water conservation, soil monitoring and smart agricultural technologies.
A highlight was the CAAMS Strategic Workshop for International Partners, where the Antigua and Barbuda delegation partnered with participants from Grenada for a team presentation, placing second overall.
The programme also emphasized strategic partnerships, international cooperation and innovative approaches to agricultural development. The delegation has returned with valuable knowledge and practical experience that can contribute to more efficient water management, sustainable agriculture and greater innovation within Antigua and Barbuda’s agricultural sector.
