As we come together to observe Nurses Week 2025, I take this opportunity to extend the deepest appreciation on behalf of the Government and people of Antigua and Barbuda to one of the most vital pillars of our healthcare system—our nurses.

This year’s theme, “Nurses Make the Difference,” is not just a slogan—it is a statement of truth. Nurses are the heartbeat of our healthcare system. They are there in our most vulnerable moments—when a child is born, when an elderly parent needs care, when families face medical emergencies, and when communities are in crisis. Through every moment, nurses are present—calm, courageous, and compassionate.

Throughout the years, and particularly in recent times, our nurses have demonstrated extraordinary resilience. Whether during hurricanes, public health emergencies, or the unprecedented demands of the COVID-19 pandemic, they have stepped up time and time again. Their commitment to service, even in the face of personal risk and sacrifice, is nothing short of heroic.

But their impact extends far beyond hospital walls. Nurses are community educators, advocates for wellness, counselors to families, and the bridge between medical systems and the people they serve. Their voices, insights, and hands are central to shaping a healthier, more equitable future for all of us.

Here in Antigua and Barbuda, we are committed to supporting and uplifting our nurses—not only with words of thanks, but through action. We continue to invest in training, infrastructure, and resources to better equip our nurses to do what they do best: care, heal, and lead.

To every nurse—whether you are on the frontlines in emergency care, tending to patients in rural clinics, caring for the elderly, or mentoring the next generation of professionals—know this: You matter. You are seen. You are valued. You truly make the difference.

As we celebrate this special week, let us all reflect on the sacrifices, the service, and the strength of our nurses. And let us recommit ourselves, as a nation, to ensuring that those who give so much to others receive the recognition, support, and respect they deserve.
