The Ministry of Education, Sports and Creative Industries and the Antigua and Barbuda Red Cross Society are mourning the loss of Mrs Nickesha Browne-Burton, a respected school crossing guard and longtime volunteer, who died on 20 May 2025.

In a statement issued this week, the Ministry described Mrs Browne-Burton as a valued colleague in the School Crossing Guard Department, remembering her for her “dedication, gentle spirit, and unwavering commitment to her duties, even in the face of illness.”

“May her soul rest in peace,” the Ministry added.

The Antigua and Barbuda Red Cross also paid tribute to Mrs Browne-Burton, who served the organisation as a volunteer for many years.

Describing her as a beacon of grace, compassion and strength, the Red Cross said she had touched countless lives through her service and everyday kindness.

“Whether through her professional work as a crossing guard, her volunteerism, or her simple acts of kindness, Nickesha exemplified love in action,” the organisation stated.

“She was a guiding light to many — a mentor, a confidante, and a source of comfort.”

Red Cross President Dr J Humpherys extended condolences to Mrs Browne-Burton’s family, including her mother, Mrs Sherilyn Anthony – herself a member of the Red Cross – her husband, children, and siblings.

Mrs Browne-Burton is being remembered as a quiet but powerful presence in her community — a figure of generosity, integrity and strength whose legacy will continue to inspire.
