In a powerful demonstration of compassion and urgency, the Calvin Ayre Foundation and CalvinAir Helicopters, in partnership with the Medical Benefits Scheme (MBS), came together to ensure that 7-year-old G’Ani Bridgewater received the critical medical attention he urgently needed. On Tuesday, May 27th, G’Ani and his parents were airlifted to Martinique aboard a medically equipped CalvinAir helicopter, for specialized treatment.
When G ‘Ani’s condition required immediate overseas intervention, the Medical Benefits Scheme mobilized financial support, but a significant shortfall threatened to delay the mission. Without hesitation, the Calvin Ayre Foundation stepped in, covering nearly US$22,000 of the US$31,540 total cost. Their swift response removed all financial barriers in the way of G ’Ani’s care.
“This is exactly why the Calvin Ayre Foundation exists,” said Ayre Group’s Media Relations Specialist, Jamilla Kirwan. “When someone’s life is on the line – especially a child – there is no room for delay. We are proud to stand with partners like MBS and our team at CalvinAir, to make a difference when it truly matters.”
“MBS carries the medical burden of the nation and sometimes it isn’t feasible to carry all of it,” said Valena Tannis, Board Secretary of the Medical Benefits Scheme. “We are grateful that the MBS Board, under the auspices of the Hon. Sir Molwyn Joseph, has established a working partnership with the Calvin Ayre Foundation, where they are able to assist in areas that we are unable to bear the full financial responsibility. This is a testament to what can happen when public and private sectors join forces.”
Simultaneously, CalvinAir Helicopters activated a rapid-response medical transport operation, outfitting one of its aircraft for critical care and personally transporting the young boy and his parents – Leoma Prince and Gerald Bridgewater – to Martinique, under the watchful eye of Pediatrician, Dr. Tessy Fenton-Lee.
G ‘Ani’s parents expressed deep gratitude for the lifesaving support. “We are overwhelmed by the love and help we’ve received,” said G ‘Ani’s mother, Leoma Prince. “Words cannot express our thanks to the Calvin Ayre Foundation, CalvinAir Helicopters, and Medical Benefits. They gave our son a fighting chance.”
