Antigua and Barbuda’s Cabinet has welcomed the selection of four young Antiguan and Barbudan cricketers to the West Indies Under-19 team, describing their inclusion as a reflection of the country’s strong youth cricket development.

The announcement was noted during Wednesday’s Cabinet meeting, chaired by Acting Prime Minister Sir Steadroy Cutie Benjamin, according to Director General of Communications Maurice Merchant.

Merchant said Cabinet applauded the selection of Jewel Andrew, Matthew Miller, Micah McKenzie and Tannis Francis as the regional squad prepares for international competition, including the ICC Under-19 World Cup and youth one-day international fixtures.

“The Cabinet and people of Antigua and Barbuda extend congratulations to Jewel, Matthew, Micah and Tannis on their selection,” Merchant said, adding that officials wish them success as they represent the country and the region.

Merchant highlighted Andrew as a standout performer, noting his early rise through the ranks of West Indies cricket.

“Jewel Andrew, a standout 17-year-old wicketkeeper and batter, brings impressive credentials to the squad,” Merchant said. “He has already represented the West Indies at senior level, making his one-day international debut at 17 and featuring in T20 internationals as well.”

Merchant said the other three players have also earned their places through consistent performances.

“Matthew Miller and Tannis Francis have already represented the Leeward Islands,” he said, while Micah McKenzie “was called up mid-series for the West Indies Under-19 squad during its youth ODI series against England.”

Merchant said Cabinet viewed the selections as further evidence of the depth of local cricket talent.

“The inclusion of these four young men highlights the strength of youth cricket development in Antigua and Barbuda and reflects the potential of our emerging players on the regional and world stage,” he said.
