Urban Renewal Minister and Member of Parliament for St. Peter, Rawdon Turner, returned to familiar ground this week as he addressed students of the Pares Secondary School during their Career Day activities.

Turner, an alumnus of the institution, delivered a candid and heartfelt presentation, sharing both the triumphs and challenges of his personal and academic journey. His message was clear: education is more than a stepping stone—it is the bedrock of all aspirations.

“Education is not just about passing exams; it’s the foundation that supports every dream, every goal, and every career, no matter the field,” Turner told the attentive audience of students.

He took time to speak with students from across the academic spectrum, encouraging them to follow their passions—whether it be operating heavy-duty trucks or entering the healthcare profession. Turner emphasized that no ambition is out of reach with a strong educational foundation and personal determination.

Reflecting on the experience, Turner described the visit as a powerful reminder of his own beginnings and reaffirmed his commitment to public service.

“Thank you, Pares Secondary, for having me,” he wrote in a social media post following the engagement.

The Career Day event forms part of the school’s broader effort to expose students to diverse professional paths and real-life examples of success through resilience.
