This year’s International Artificial Intelligence Annual Research Conference at UWI Five Islands will examine how small island states can adapt to the sweeping changes brought by AI.

Speaking to ABS, Campus Principal Professor C. Justin Robinson said the conference, now in its fifth year, will place greater emphasis on policy, ethics, and AI’s potential impacts on jobs and public services in the region.

“We are in a new era of rapid automation, and small states must be proactive,” he said. “This conference will help frame our response by drawing on local knowledge and global expertise.”

Topics will include AI in governance, education, healthcare, and economic development, with targeted panels addressing equity, access, and regulatory frameworks for the Caribbean context.
