Dear Editor
As an avid listener of the Browne & Browne show, and also as a former Booby Alley resident, I was extremely impressed & elated to hear that ” residential stipulations ” will be enforced, after the Booby Alley housing scheme is been passed back over to the residents.
The culture of Booby Alley will always be a part of me. Not only was my nabel string bury deh but I spent most of my informative years living there with my siblings and mother, who was a single parent trying as much as possible to make two ends meet, for all of us to survive.
Back then, due to our economical status, and the limited support that my mother had, we adopted to a particular lifestyle which became the order of the day within Booby Alley. Praying daily was a practice that my mother culcated, hoping that some day our living conditions would get better.
Today, her prayers has been answered. The new Booby Alley project is now on its way. For us, we were always cognizant that ” cleansliness is next to Godliness “. We also knew that inspite of one’s socio-economic status, living a decent & hygienic lifestyle should be paramount.
Thank God, that the time has come for us, as a community, have the opportunity to raise the standard and raise it bodly. As a people, we need to answer now to the clarion call and serve our community with pride & dignity, sparing nothing but giving our beloved community all.
As residents of the new Booby Alley housing scheme, the responsibility will be ours to commit ourselves to show the world that we are not going to be like pigs placed in a palace to remain as a pig, but we will be transformed & be empowered with pride to emanate high living standards that will be able to compete with other communities
The Booby Alley project is gift to us that is definitely second to none! It is also a blessing in disguise. The onus is on us, to show to the Govt our appreciation of such a social program of this nature. It’s a program that should fully transform our lifestyle, our children’s lives and the mindset of the future generations to come. Let us remember that lightening does not strike at the same place twice.
Most times, in these impoverished communities, our actions and lifestyle make us become a victim in society. The immediate environment is always a reflection of the residents’ state of mind.
Residents from other communities will always be ahead of the game, not because they are better than us but because what we learn and do a yard, we tek abroad as a daily practice and hence these practices tend impede our progress as a people. Therefore, now is the right time for the residents of Booby Alley to rise to the occasion.
