It is not very often, especially in a community like Gray’s Green, fathers are seen congregating in a sanctuary with their sons & daughters to give God thanks and praises.

Yesterday, the Gray’s Farm Wesleyan Pilgrim Holinesness Church was certainly the place to be. It was a spectacular sight to witness so many fathers, neatly attired, fellowshiping in the church, to celebrate Father’s Day.

Unlike Mother’s Day, the church was not adorned with any decoration to welcome the men. However, none of fathers left the sanctuary with any disappointment. They were all blessed by the service, which was comprised of a combination of musical renditions rendered by the melodious worship team, pin-ons & hugs ushered from the ushers, presentations of gift packages, poetry, a skit and a sermonette.

The sermonette was quite fitting and timely. The topic “Eli, a father, who lost his family due to misguidance or a lack of discipline ” was quite synonymous of what is presently taking place today with many of our fathers & their families in our communities.

Interestingly, the sermonette was rendered by one of the female elders of the church. Although public speaking is not her fortè, surprisingly, she did a great job to catch everyone’s attention with the message.

After the service, the females of the church who were also responsible for the catering, then treated the fathers with a scrumptious luncheon. The atmosphere was highly charged. It was a fellowship that the men, women and chidren, together as a family, all enjoyed. The air was filled with excitement of chatter & laughter.

It was evident that Father’s Day at the Holinesness Wesleyan Holinesness church in Gray’s Farm was well spent. There was nothing at all for the fathers to complain about.

When it was time to go home, all the fathers left with broad smiles on their faces and their bellies full to the brim. Upon departure, each father was given a bottle of low volume alcoholic wine, so they all departed cheerfully caressing their gifts that was received during the church service and the bottle of wine that was given at the luncheon.

This year’s Father’s Day would be a day that the fathers who attended the service, will never forget. There was no doubt that they all felt the love & appreciation from the members of the Weslyan Holiness church family of Gray’s Green.
