The Ministry of Works in Antigua and Barbuda is scaling up staffing and working hours to meet growing demands from the island-wide road rehabilitation programme.

Public Works Minister Maria Browne confirmed that additional workers have already been hired, including road crews, heavy equipment operators, and staff for the concrete and hot mix plants. Recruitment is ongoing.

“Anyone interested can apply at the Ministry with valid ID and a police record,” she told state media this week.

The Ministry is also introducing a shift system to support night-time operations, with discussions underway with unions and staff. Night work has already begun in St John’s and is expected to expand to other areas.

Browne added that overtime and shift work are also being implemented at the quarry and hot mix plant to boost material production. With demand rising, the government is considering importing materials from regional neighbours like Montserrat, pending test results.

Overnight works were carried out Sunday on Independence Avenue and Redcliffe Street, while road repairs continue daily on community roads and major highways.
