Four students from Sir McChesney George Secondary School in Barbuda have been nationally recognised for outstanding CSEC Mathematics results, a milestone hailed as a breakthrough for education on the sister isle.

Deshawn Barton, Dasheek Charles, and Reniah Nibbs earned Grade I passes, while Gregory-Ann Thomas secured a Grade II—remarkable achievements given the limited resources available to them.

The students were honoured at the 39th ACB Caribbean National CSEC Awards Ceremony, where officials commended them for “rewriting the academic narrative” of their community.

Director of Education Clare Browne praised their determination and teamwork, noting how they overcame challenges such as fewer teachers and materials by organising study groups and after-school sessions.

With ambitions spanning dentistry, aviation, culinary arts and electrical engineering, the students are already looking ahead. Their success is seen as a beacon of hope for future learners in Barbuda.
