Sandra Scotland-Williams, the wife of Antigua and Barbuda’s Governor General Sir Rodney Williams, disclosed on social media Friday that she has undergone multiple major surgeries and is coping with lasting complications.

In a Facebook post, Scotland-Williams said she had spinal surgery in the United Kingdom before traveling to Trinidad for additional procedures. She revealed that she is now paralyzed in her left hand and arm, adding that “time will tell if things will ever be ‘normal’ again.”

“Unfortunately, my neck was sliced from ear to ear to make a clear pathway so that the neurosurgeons could do their work,” she wrote. She explained that the vertebrae in her neck have been replaced with a metal cage.

Scotland-Williams also noted that she has been battling ongoing pulmonary embolism, which has caused swelling. Despite the challenges, she expressed resilience, telling her followers, “We never know what life holds. Always be prepared to deal with whatever curve ball you are thrown. I’m still standing.”

Her disclosure drew messages of support and well wishes from the public.
