The Prices and Consumer Affairs Division is informing consumers of a product recall for Neutrogena Make-up Remover Ultra-Soft Cleansing Towelettes due to possible bacterial contamination.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has stated that an internal investigation done by Kenvue Brands LLC, Neutrogena’s parent company, revealed that the brand’s Make-up Remover Ultra-Soft Cleansing Towelettes tested positive for a bacteria known as Pluralibacter gergoviae. The FDA has classified the risk level as a Class II recall, indicating that the product “may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences, or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.”

Wipes affected in the recall have the lot number: 1835U6325A

According to the manufacturer, Pluralibacter-gergoviae is a bacteria that can cause severe infections in people with weakened immune systems, chronic illnesses, or those undergoing surgical procedures. It has also been linked to respiratory diseases, urinary tract infections, eye infections and sepsis, according to Malbec Microbiology.

The Division is advising consumers who may have purchased the product not to use the item, but return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Consumers may also contact the Prices and Consumer Affairs Division at 462-4347 or consumeraffairs@ab.gov.ag for additional information or assistance.
