    Ambassador Lionel Alexander Hurst has been knighted for his outstanding contribution to the diplomatic service and national development during Antigua and Barbuda’s 44th Independence celebrations.

    Hurst was conferred the title _Knight Commander of the Most Distinguished Order of the Nation (KCN)_ at the National Awards Ceremony held at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, where his citation praised a lifetime of service marked by scholarship, leadership, and patriotic dedication.

    According to the official citation, Ambassador Hurst “has dedicated a lifetime to the advancement and representation of Antigua and Barbuda, distinguishing himself as a diplomat, legal expert, scholar, media personality, and national advisor.”

    His career spans decades of exceptional service, including as Antigua and Barbuda’s Ambassador to the United Nations, where he chaired key international committees and represented the country at numerous General Assembly sessions. He also served as Ambassador to the United States and Head of Mission in Washington, D.C., where he “skillfully advocated for Antigua and Barbuda’s political and economic interests before the U.S. government, the World Bank, and other international institutions.”

    Beyond his diplomatic achievements, the citation noted that Hurst has “significantly enriched the intellectual, cultural, and civic life of Antigua and Barbuda.” A prolific author and lecturer, his work at institutions such as Princeton University, New York University, and the U.S. National War College has “amplified Antigua and Barbuda’s voice on the world stage.”

    Through his broadcasting and media work, Hurst has educated and inspired citizens on law, governance, and global affairs, while strengthening public understanding of national and international issues.

    The citation described Hurst as embodying “the highest ideals of leadership, patriotism, and public service.” His knighthood recognizes not only his diplomatic accomplishments but also his enduring role in shaping national thought and advancing Antigua and Barbuda’s presence globally.

    He now bears the title **Sir Lionel Alexander Hurst**, marking a distinguished milestone in a career devoted to service, intellect, and national pride.
