A Cedar Valley man who repeatedly stole alcohol from supermarkets across St. John’s has been sentenced to three years in prison following a months-long theft spree worth more than $6,800.

Wilbur Edwards pleaded guilty to six counts of larceny when he appeared before the Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday. He received six-month sentences for each charge, ordered to run consecutively.

Prosecutors told the court that over a three-month period, Edwards frequented several supermarkets, disguising his thefts as routine shopping trips. He reportedly carried an extra bag in his cart, filled it with bottles of liquor, and paid only for other groceries at checkout. One store was hit twice during the spree.

In sentencing, the magistrate said consecutive terms were justified since each offence involved separate thefts of high-value alcohol from different businesses.

Edwards was acquitted of additional charges of battery and resisting arrest linked to his capture.
