The Cabinet of Antigua and Barbuda has pledged support for local drag racer Jason Marsh following a serious racing incident in the Virgin Islands that left him hospitalized.

Director General of Communications in the Prime Minister’s Office Maurice Merchant said Cabinet was briefed on Marsh’s condition during its meeting and extended support to him and his family.

“Cabinet also learned of a very serious incident in the Virgin Islands involving one of our most celebrated race car drivers, Jason Marsh,” Merchant said during the weekly Cabinet briefing.

Merchant said Marsh sustained serious injuries and remains under medical care.

“He is seriously injured and is hospitalized there,” Merchant said, adding that Cabinet had been informed of the severity of the incident.

Cabinet, he said, has committed to assisting Marsh as he recovers.

“Cabinet sent its wishes for his recovery and also pledged its support towards his health care,” Merchant said.

Merchant noted Marsh’s standing within the racing community and said Cabinet also extended its support to his family and supporters.

“The Cabinet has extended its best wishes for his recovery to his family and also to the large number of supporters Jason has in the racing fraternity,” he said.

No further details were provided on the nature of the injuries or the form of support pledged.
