Senator Michael Freeland has partnered with community stakeholders to donate three 40-inch Smart TVs and a 14-camera CCTV security system to Potters Primary School, following a recent break-in that left the institution without key educational equipment.

The donation was made in collaboration with Mr Dane Martin and the Potters Reunion Group, represented by Miss Casmin Knowles. It was formally handed over to the school’s principal, Miss Jasinter Athill, in the presence of students.

The school had lost several Smart TVs during the break-in — devices that are used to support digitally enhanced teaching and learning. Senator Freeland said the incident prompted a commitment not only to replace the stolen items but also to strengthen security at the school.

The newly installed CCTV system will provide round-the-clock surveillance, with the aim of improving safety on the compound and deterring future criminal activity.

Senator Freeland said the initiative demonstrated the importance of community collaboration, thanking the Potters Reunion Group, Miss Knowles and Mr Martin for their role in making the donation possible.

He added that supporting educational institutions went beyond physical infrastructure, noting that safe and secure learning environments were essential to the success of teachers and students alike.

Potters Primary is located in St George, an area where residents and community groups have increasingly called for collective action to protect schools and other public institutions from crime.

The senator encouraged continued cooperation among residents, organisations and leaders to help build a safer and stronger community.
