The Calvin Ayre Foundation (CAF) continues its mission to bridge urgent healthcare gaps by recently facilitating two life-saving medical evacuations since the start 2026, working in close collaboration with the Medical Benefits Scheme (MBS) and regional healthcare facilities.

Earlier this year, Mr. Paqual Peters was successfully airlifted to Martinique for urgent lung evaluation and treatment, marking the Foundation’s first medevac of 2026. The operation was carried out by the CalvinAir Helicopters and funded by CAF, while the Medical Benefits Scheme (MBS) provided full financial coverage for the associated procedures.

Dr. Benjamin Bridge, Senior Registrar in Internal Medicine at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Center, accompanied Mr. Peters to ensure a seamless transition of care to the regional medical team.

“I want to thank the Calvin Ayre Foundation from the bottom of my heart,” said Ms. Esther King. Mr. Peters’ sister. Mr. Peters has since returned to Antigua after receiving medical treatment.

Shortly thereafter, CAF coordinated its second medevac of the year, this time supporting the overseas transfer of a 15-year-old Antiguan female in need of urgent specialised care, not available locally. The patient was flown to Trinidad & Tobago, where she was hospitalized for testing, assessment and subsequent treatment.

Working closely with MBS, who covered the hospitalisation and medical expenses, CAF handled a percentage of the air ambulance cost. The Foundation also worked hand in hand with the family and physician to ensure a compassionate and timely transfer.

“This year has already tested our emergency response resources, but we are proud to continue bridging critical healthcare gaps for our people,” said Patrice Jacobs, Media Associate of CAF. “This young patient and her family were in need of swift support, and we were honoured to assist.”

These back-to-back missions underscore the Foundation’s steadfast commitment to health equity and highlight the impact of public-private collaboration in responding to urgent care needs.
