It was another high-energy night in the NPPA 8-Ball Team Competition as Week 1, Night 3 delivered a statement win for CUE Action, who edged Obsidian 5–3 in a matchup between two teams eager to move away from last season’s bottom-half finish.

The night opened with Obsidian striking first. Feelinz, one of two female players on the Obsidian roster, showed composure and grit to defeat Poker, a league newcomer, 2–1 after dropping the opening rack. That early momentum didn’t last long, however, as CUE Action’s Pachi responded with a solid 2–0 win over the other female Perla, leveling the tie and setting the tone for a tightly contested evening.

Drama followed in the Randy versus Mercedes matchup. Mercedes took the first rack, but costly mistakes proved decisive. Two separate 8-ball scratches in the following games handed Randy the 2–1 win and pushed CUE Action into the lead.

Captain Wendy then delivered one of the night’s most significant performances, grinding out a 2–1 victory over iRanks, who had remained unbeaten since joining the NPPA late last year. That result gave CUE Action breathing room at 3–1.

Obsidian answered through PoolDawg, who defeated Ligarro and produced the shot of the night to narrow the gap to 3–2. But Willy quickly shut the door on any Obsidian comeback hopes, blanking Zing-Zing 2–0 to put CUE Action on the hill.

Obsidian’s Mully — widely regarded as one of the team’s backbones — kept the contest alive with a 2–1 win over Max (Alexis), cutting the score to 4–3. In the final match, Brian delivered the clincher, defeating Coach 2–0 to seal the 5–3 victory for CUE Action.

For both teams, the night highlighted clear growth from last season. For CUE Action, it was a confidence-building win and a strong start to their campaign. For Obsidian, flashes of brilliance — coupled with a few costly errors — showed that they remain a dangerous team capable of bouncing back. If Night 3 is any indication, the NPPA season is shaping up to be fiercely competitive.
