LETTER: Unpaid Wages for Work at Independence Food F

I am writing to bring public attention to an unresolved issue concerning unpaid wages for work performed during the Independence Food Fair, organized by the Ministry of Education, Sports and Creative Industries, in collaboration with the Antigua and Barbuda Festivals Commission.

In 2024, I was engaged to work at the Food Fair in a general labor role. Although payment was promised, I did not receive the full amount owed at the time. What payment I did receive only came months later, around January of the following year.

Despite this experience, I worked again at the Independence Food Fair in 2025, performing similar duties, including trash collection and handling responsibilities that arose from what appeared to be poor on-site organization. As of today, February 8th, I have still not received any payment for the work carried out during the 2025 event.

Individuals providing essential labor at national events should not be required to wait months or years to be compensated, nor should they be left without clear communication or accountability. This matter raises concerns not only for myself but for others who may rely on short-term or event-based work organized under government ministries.

This letter is submitted in the interest of public awareness and accountability, with the hope that greater transparency and improved administrative practices will ensure fair treatment of workers in the future.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

    Sincerely,
    A Concerned Worker
