    This is a Tsunami Information Statement to inform the public and authorities that, based on current data, there is no tsunami threat to Antigua and Barbuda following the recent seismic activity.

    Preliminary Earthquake Parameters:

    • Magnitude: 6.9

    • Origin Time and Date: 8:17 AST (1217 UTC) March 21, 2026

    • Coordinates: 23.8° North, 45.8° West, about 1818 km/1130 miles northeast of Antigua

    • Depth: 1 km/0.6 miles

    • Location: Northern Mid-Atlantic Ridge

    Evaluation:

    An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.9 occurred at the Northern Mid-Atlantic Ridge at 8:31 am on Saturday, March 21, 2026

    Based on all available data, there is no significant tsunami threat from this earthquake. However, there is a very small possibility of tsunami waves along the Atlantic coasts located nearest the epicentre.
