The Antigua and Barbuda Broadcasting Service (ABS) is set to relocate to the Caribbean Cinemas building by June, following the finalisation of an agreement between the government and the property’s owner, Information Minister Melford Nicholas has confirmed.

Speaking on Monday Meeting with the Minister, Nicholas said securing a permanent solution for ABS has been a longstanding challenge during his tenure. The broadcaster has been operating from temporary locations, including Parliament and the Cecil Building, after staff were relocated due to health and safety concerns at its previous facility.

Nicholas said efforts to secure the Caribbean Cinemas site began last November and have now progressed to the technical phase, with Public Works preparing designs and engineers advancing plans. He noted that new equipment will be required, as the current setup is not suitable for the upgraded studio.

He added that while the move will address immediate needs, the long-term goal remains a purpose-built ABS headquarters at the Sunshine Car Park Hub, which he described as the preferred permanent solution.
