Director of Education Clare Brown has challenged Antigua and Barbuda’s top CSEC performers to use their academic achievements as a foundation for leadership, service and national development.

Speaking at the 40th National CSEC Awards Ceremony, Brown congratulated students for their success in the 2025 Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate examinations while reminding them that excellence extends beyond grades and examination results.

“As I look across this sanctuary, I see students who excelled in examinations. I see future doctors, engineers, educators, entrepreneurs, innovators and public servants,” Brown said.

The ceremony, held under the theme “Architects of Tomorrow,” recognized students who earned top performances in the 2025 CSEC examinations.

Brown told awardees that their accomplishments were the result of discipline, persistence and sacrifice, rather than chance.

“Your performance in the 2025 Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate examinations has earned you a place among our nation’s finest scholars,” he said. “This distinction is not an accident of circumstance. It is the result of discipline when distractions beckoned, persistence when obstacles emerged, and courage when success demanded sacrifice.”

The Director of Education said the students represented more than academic success and were helping to shape the future of Antigua and Barbuda.

“The future is not built by chance,” Brown said. “It is built by minds that dare to imagine, hearts that refuse to quit and individuals who transform opportunity into achievement.”

While praising academic excellence, Brown cautioned students against focusing solely on scholastic achievement.

“Yet, as important as academic excellence is, it is not enough on its own,” he said. “A brilliant mind can achieve much. A noble character can achieve even more.”

He encouraged the students to allow their accomplishments to be guided by integrity, compassion and a commitment to helping others.

“The true measure of excellence is not simply how high you rise, but how many lives you uplift along the way,” Brown told the gathering.

Brown also urged students to remain resilient as they pursue higher education and career goals, noting that challenges are inevitable.

“There will be moments when the road ahead appears uncertain and the destination distant,” he said. “Do not surrender your dreams to your difficulties. Greatness is often born in the space between challenge and perseverance.”

The education official concluded by encouraging awardees to represent Antigua and Barbuda with distinction and to continue building on the success they have already achieved.

“Today we celebrate your achievements. Tomorrow we will witness the impact of your contributions,” Brown said.

The National CSEC Awards Ceremony marked its 40th anniversary this year and recognized students who achieved Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze distinctions, as well as those earning regional merit placements.
