Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre (SLBMC) has awarded short-course scholarships to five employees as part of its ongoing staff development programme for the 2026 Semester III (Summer) period.

The hospital announced that the scholarships were granted through its Learning and Development Unit to support employees pursuing additional training and professional qualifications.

The recipients are registered nurses Jolene Punter-Prescott and Abbey-Gayle Walsh, who will both undertake studies in Supervisory Management; nursing assistant Kimmone Excell, who will pursue a Certificate in End of Life Care; Shadia Joseph, who will study Financial Management Essentials; and Shawn Bailey, who will complete an Introduction to Human Resources Management course.

SLBMC said the initiative reflects its commitment to supporting the professional growth of staff members and recognizing employees who have demonstrated dedication to continuous learning and service excellence.

The medical centre added that the scholarship recipients exemplify the culture of learning, innovation and excellence it seeks to promote throughout the organization.

Hospital officials expressed confidence that the additional training will benefit both the recipients and the communities served by the institution.
