Prime Minister Gaston Browne says the government’s road improvement programme for Barbuda has received the green light, paving the way for additional infrastructure projects on the sister island.

Speaking on the Browne and Browne Show on Saturday, Browne said the road works form part of a broader development programme that also includes a new cargo port, housing developments and improvements at the Barbuda airport.

“We’ve gotten the green light for the roads in Barbuda,” Browne said.

The prime minister said construction of the island’s new cargo port is expected to begin within the next 60 days, with equipment scheduled to be mobilized to Barbuda shortly.

He also provided an update on the airport expansion, saying work on the terminal building is progressing.

“The airport is moving well. The terminal building is moving well,” Browne said.

Browne noted that the government is continuing its housing programme on the island, including the construction of homes funded through a grant from China.

He said the combination of road improvements, expanded port facilities, airport upgrades and new housing is intended to support Barbuda’s long-term economic development while improving infrastructure for residents and businesses.

The prime minister said the projects demonstrate the government’s continued commitment to investing in Barbuda’s growth and preparing the island for increased commercial and residential activity.
