The Ministry of Education has reminded parents that students entering secondary school will not be transferred simply because they prefer a different school.

Speaking after the release of the 2026 Grade Six National Assessment results, Director of Education Clare Browne said transfer requests will only be considered if the Ministry identifies an administrative error in the placement process.

Parents who believe a mistake has been made have one week to submit a written request, endorsed by their child’s primary school, for review. All applications must be received by next Friday, after which they will be assessed by the Director of Education’s office. Parents can expect a response within two weeks.

Browne said the Ministry had already received transfer requests before the examination results were published and urged parents to trust the placement system, stressing that every secondary school is capable of providing a quality education.

He added that student placements are determined through a structured process managed by the Measurement and Evaluation Unit.

Meanwhile, Acting Assistant Director of Education and head of the Measurement and Evaluation Unit, Jevelle Gore-Hurst, said 89% of the 1,284 students who sat this year’s assessment achieved acceptable results, with more than half placed in the top academic tier.
