Antigua and Barbuda continues to strengthen its reputation as a leading sports tourism destination with the return of the Nottingham Girls’ Day School from the United Kingdom for its third consecutive sports tourism exchange. The visit, facilitated by the Sports Tourism Department within the Ministry of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Transportation and Investment, underscores the enduring partnership between the destination and the educational institution.
The visiting delegation arrived in Antigua yesterday (Tuesday), and consists of two Under-17 netball teams who will be competing in a series of exhibition matches against local teams between July 9 to 17. The annual visit continues to strengthen the relationship between the school and Antigua and Barbuda while giving young athletes the opportunity to develop their skills, build friendships and experience a new culture through sport.
Away from the court, the students will enjoy some of the destination’s most memorable attractions. Their itinerary includes a visit to Cades Bay for snorkeling and other water activities, Stingray City, and a trip to the historic Shirley Heights.
Ms. Karen Joseph, head of the Sports Tourism Department said the tourism ministry is delighted to welcome the delegation back to Antigua and Barbuda and looks forward to another successful exchange.
“Sports tourism is about so much more than competition. It’s an opportunity for young people to connect, learn from one another and create lasting memories while experiencing everything our beautiful twin-island nation has to offer”, Ms. Joseph said.
The Ministry of Tourism continues to promote Antigua and Barbuda as a premier destination for sports tourism by attracting international teams and sporting exchanges that benefit local athletes, support the tourism industry and showcase the country’s exceptional hospitality, sporting facilities and natural beauty.
