Minister of Health, Wellness, Environment and Civil Service Affairs, Michael Joseph, recently met with the management and staff of the Ministry’s Health Information Division as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the country’s health information systems and improve the use of data in healthcare planning and decision-making.
The meeting provided the Minister with an overview of the Division’s operations, including how health statistics are collected, analyzed, and reported. Discussions also focused on opportunities to streamline data collection and reporting processes to ensure that accurate, timely, and comprehensive health information is readily available.
Minister Joseph emphasized the critical role that reliable health data plays in developing evidence-based policies and delivering effective healthcare services.
“Quality health information is the foundation of sound decision-making. By strengthening our systems and improving how data is collected, analyzed, and shared, we can make better policy decisions that directly benefit the people of Antigua and Barbuda. Equally important, we want to ensure that this information is accessible to the public so that citizens are informed about the nation’s health status and can make healthier choices,” Minister Joseph said.
The discussions also explored ways to improve the aggregation and dissemination of health statistics, enabling the Government to identify emerging health trends, allocate resources more effectively, and develop targeted programmes that address the needs of specific communities.
The Minister noted that making health information more accessible to the public will enhance transparency and encourage greater public engagement in health and wellness initiatives.
The Health Information Division reaffirmed its commitment to modernizing its systems and working collaboratively with stakeholders across the health sector to strengthen the country’s health information infrastructure.
The Ministry of Health, Wellness, Environment and Civil Service Affairs remains committed to building a data-driven healthcare system that supports informed decision-making, improves health outcomes, and enhances the well-being of all residents of Antigua and Barbuda.
